IRA owners age 70½ and older have the ability to make charitable gifts directly from their IRAs of up to $100,000 and exclude those amounts from taxable income. This gift strategy first became available for the tax year 2006, but has been renewed by Congress annually since then, on a one-year basis, and was available through the end of 2011. Please check with our office on whether IRA gifts have been reauthorized for 2012. • Income Tax Deduction • Capital Gains Considerations • Date Gift Is Effective • Method of Transfer • Valuation of Gift Assets • Substantiation Requirements • Special Considerations |
