Gift Planning

Donor Stories

One 2010 donor noted “When doing my estate planning and rewriting my Will a few years ago, I was told that my IRA could be taxed up to 75% at the time of my death.  This high percentage of taxation appalled me.  As a result, I have been taking yearly distributions and I am also fulfilling my three-year commitment to the Community Women’s and Newborn Center with a direct rollover from my IRA account to the CMC Foundation.”

R.H."Ty" Robinson

“My commitment to a community hospital for the people of Missoula was born in 1948 when I served as legal counsel for the Missoula Mercantile.  I was part of a core leadership group who rallied Missoula citizens to purchase the Thornton hospital and, over the years, to build what has become Community Medical Center.  The people of this region are our stakeholders in the every-evolving care and education provided by our physicians and staff.  I have experienced the miracles of renewed health and compassionate care firsthand.  Being active in the life of CMC gives me the opportunity to provide and encourage support for CMC Foundation in our mission to ensure medical excellence and accessible healthcare for our community.”

Margaret and Kevin Winter

Margaret and Kevin Winter have combined passion, involvement, planning savvy and a desire to benefit Community Medical Center.  Margaret spent her professional life helping people to make healthy choices as a dietitian.  While employed at St. Patrick Hospital, she filled in with service to CMC.  Kevin, a banker in Missoula, first got involved in Community through an invitation from then-CEO Grant Winn.  The Winter’s commitment to healthcare and patients is exemplified in their support of CMC Foundation’s scholarship program, established to benefit those who aspire to be or are currently serving as medical professionals.  “The opportunity to educate caregivers ultimately helps the patients, and we just saw such a tremendous need there,” notes Margaret.

The Winter’s gift planning – making gifts that generated an income tax credit for them and using company matching gift programs – has allowed them to establish and build the Kevin and Margaret Winter Scholarship Endowment.  Since 2004, their generosity has provided for annual scholarships for CMC employees or high school seniors.

Kevin and Margaret are active volunteers for the CMC Foundation and are also founding members of the R.H. "Ty" Robinson Legacy Club, a group of donors who have supported CMC Foundation with gifts of securities, planned gifts or gifts through their will.

Marti and Steve Wolfinger

“I’ve got my life back,” Steve Wolfinger told us.

It took dogged determination, the endless support of Steve’s wife, Marti, strategic care from a talented team of caregivers in Community’s Rehabilitation Institute, and a good sense of humor.  Now Steve and Marti want to do all they can to support the care of others at Community, and they have included CMC Foundation in their estate plans.
