Donor Stories
“The reason I chose to become a member of the Legacy Society is simple. I want to give to Union in a way that outlasts me. There are many generous benefactors in Union’s history that have supported people they would never know. As a recipient of endowed scholarships, I found that incredibly selfless and most charitable. Considering the mission of the institution, it was no surprise to me that people gave to support the college’s mission in a way that is essentially infinite. Planned giving is attractive because it is flexible, can be adjusted to meet my current life stage, and is a way to eventually ensure my desire to make a gift that will be at the endowed level. Also, since I am early in my career and unable to give at the Milestone Level, participation in the Legacy Society ensures that my intent to share a gift that outlasts me, and to perpetually impact the future students of Union, transpires.”

“Earl and I included Union College in our wills to assist young men and women who are not blessed with wealth or influence, so that they may pursue an education at a private liberal arts college.
“I am grateful for the help and education that I received at Union College, and we support its mission as ‘a learning community dedicated to creating personal, intellectual and social transformation through the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, service and spiritual growth.’
“Our future financial contribution is more than a debt repaid, or even an investment in the education of our youth. It is an act of faith, affirming a shared belief in the youth of Appalachia, the United States and the world community.
“We cannot think of a more worthy cause to support, and encourage others to do the same.”
