Naming USM in Your Will

Bequests and living trusts offer alumni, parents and friends a way to provide for the future of University School of Milwaukee by helping to grow the School’s endowment. Besides being the simplest legal way to distribute your estate, charitable bequests can reduce or eliminate potential estate taxes.

University School of Milwaukee gratefully accepts gifts of cash and appreciated property in trust or by bequest. We encourage you to use the sample language provided below when you create a bequest for University School of Milwaukee.

Also, while it is not required, sharing your will provision with us will ensure that your wishes will be properly followed and recognized.

Sample Bequest Options

To make a provision for University School in your will, trust, or life-income gift, you may include terminology from one of the following examples. If you already have a will, you may add a simple amendment known as a codicil to make a provision for USM.

Unrestricted Monetary Bequest: “I give, devise and bequeath $[amount] to The University School of Milwaukee Corporation.”

Restricted Monetary Bequest: “I give, devise, and bequeath $[amount] to The University School of Milwaukee Corporation to be added to the School’s endowment fund for _________________[purpose].” (Depending on the size of the bequest, a new named endowment fund could be established.)

Unrestricted Residuary Bequest: “I give, devise and bequeath [all] [(percentage)%] of the residue of my estate to The University School of Milwaukee Corporation.”

Restricted Residuary Bequest: “I give, devise and bequeath [all] [(percentage)%] of the residue of my estate to The University School of Milwaukee Corporation to be added to the School’s endowment fund for _________________[purpose].” (Depending on the size of the bequest, a new named endowment fund could be established.)

Contingent Bequest: A bequest also can be contingent upon another event. For example: “I give, devise and bequeath all of the residue of my estate to my heirs. In the event that my heirs shall predecease me, I direct that this sum be paid to The University School of Milwaukee Corporation.”
