Consider the act of planting a tree, a tree that will be around for generations to provide shade and shelter. The nearly 150 members of Weber State University's Legacy Society are likened to tree planters. They are individuals with a vision for the future of the university and the resolve to make an impact long after they have gone. Members of the WSU Legacy Society are invited to an annual dinner and campus event/program hosted by the Weber State University President. Legacy Society members plant metaphorical trees at Weber State University through planned gifts such as bequests, gift annuities, life insurance and trusts. While the individual reasons for providing the university with planned gifts are as varied as the members, the overarching goal of the WSU Legacy Society is to provide support for the future of Weber State University. Planned gifts can be designated for a specific purpose, such as scholarships, undergraduate research, program support or faculty development, just to name a few. Planned/deferred gifts can also be unrestricted and left to support the university's most pressing needs at the time the gift comes to fruition. A future gift to Weber State can be as simple as making a bequest through your will or trust. Sample language: "I bequeath the sum of ___________,or ________percent of my estate, to Weber State University in Ogden, UT, to be used for ______________________" Check out the Donor Stories page on this WSU website to read about our friends and alumni who have already “planted a tree under whose shade they do not expect to sit.” What trees are you planting for the future? Think about planting one at Weber State. Contact Don Spainhower, dspainhower1@weber.edu, (801) 626-6568, for more information about a planned gift.
